Gone are the days when Strength Training was only recommended for men. My generation has proved over and over again that women, in addition to our male counterparts, benefit from the addition of weight lifting exercises. There are so many reasons why:
1. Weight training builds muscle and burns fat
2. More muscle & less fat = a more sculpted female body
3. More muscle & less fat = a bigger calorie burn each day
4. A bigger calorie burn = a faster metabolism
5. A faster metabolism = ability to eat higher calories and not gain weight as easily
I personally delved into weight training 15 years ago. For the most part, I have remained consistent. Weight training has helped me to re-sculpt my body and when coupled with a little cardio, it's magical how much your body will change.
I've had situations where I've struggled to always have time to lift, but the idea is to be as consistent as you can be within reason. As long as you are consistent most of the time, I assure that you will reap the rewards of lifting.
By the way, if lifting is not your cup of tea, simple exercises using your own body weight do the trick too. Still not into it? Yoga can also help sculpt your body, depending also on the type of yoga you are participating in. Basically what I am telling you is that adding in some form of weight training / body weight training into your #cardiolife will always benefit you! So please don't listen to your mother's old-school opinions about how women don't lift (unless they are born-again lifters!)
What do you think of weight training? Have you tried it? Do you like it? Do you have an questions for me?
